Resources When Professional Help is Needed
By Renee Payan Wong, Webmaster
At Learning Place Online we encourage you to stretch yourself beyond the comfort zone where you're most familiar and truly become the best you can be. Much of our material is designed to offer ways you can expand yourself by utilizing your own inner resources. There are times, however, when you may want a bit of help from others.
If you're not already familiar with personal coaching, Can You Be Your Own Personal Coach? introduces you to professionals who are able to help you move most effectively toward your goals.
Sometimes, however, you may sense that your situation needs a different kind of professional. Perhaps your relationship is falling apart and you need a couples counselor. In the Relationships section there are a number of articles by some excellent couples counselors.
Then there are other issues that require a trained mental health professional such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, or marriage and family therapist. You panic in large crowds and need both medication and a behavioral specialist. This is where this section can help you.
We are pleased with the material we've collected so far but want you to know that much more is coming. We've mined the Internet's wealth of material and have grouped sites and articles in the subsections on the rights. (See How We Select Our Resources.)
New sections will be added in the future, including (but not limited to): how to choose a therapist, domestic violence/abuse, anger, types of therapy, relationship issues, and passive-aggressive behavior. If you have any suggestions for helpful sites, please e-mail me.
With all the emphasis on outside information, we don't want to overlook the excellent original content we also have in this section, including book reviews by Lynne Azpeitia, MA, MFT, and Looking Through More Than One Window, by Arlene Harder, MA, MFT.
Incidentally, if you are a member of the helping professions and would like to submit an article for inclusion in this section, please see Guidelines for Contributors to Learning Place Online
