Food can be a metaphor
for many things. Food can be a "cancer fighter", a "soother",
a "friend", or an "enemy". Food can also have
many meanings in our lives. It can be a ritual, a social event,
a blessing, and a curse.
In reality, food is the fuel we need to nourish
us and keep us going. But the millions of bits of food information
we're bombarded with every day do little else but confuse us about
what we really should eat. One article says, "Fruit is great!"
Another says, "Fruit can give you cavities!"
The "Great Diet Debate" also rages
on. A recent New York Times article extolled the benefits of The
Atkins Diet, a fat-laden regime that can actually cause heart disease.
The article caused all kinds of furor among health care professionals.
They are arguing still!
Let's face it, most of what is written about
food fails to unravel the complex skein of food fact and myth and
give us what we really want: some simple information about what's
good to eat without making us wrong about our food choices.
The food articles in this section attempt to
do just that. They were written by food experts such as Registered
Dietitians, chefs, and other food professionals. They cover the
whole food spectrum from what's good to eat for the average person
to therapeutic foods for those that have cancer, heart disease,
or other conditions where changing what you eat may profoundly impact
your health.
You'll get the latest information about what's
good to eat and what's good for you. You can make whatever changes
you please in your eating lifestyle and leave the rest. And enjoy
every bite! Eat up!
