Home > Chronic and Serious Illness > Creativity Let God Be God By Joy E. Walker Steward, reprinted with permission Depending on their beliefs, there are those who feel illness is a punishment because they haven't been good enough in some way. But there are also those who, like Joy Steward, accept their illness as a way in which God is molding them to be a better person.
Let God Be God
If God were foolish and fickle enough To be easily manipulated, Any attempt to depend on Him Would be utterly frustrated; If He were wishy-washy enough To give us what'er we requested, How could His Promise to keep us from harm Or His Wisdom and Guidance be trusted? Where He to hold grudges as some of us do, Unwilling to pardon offenders, Not one of us ever would taste of His Love For we all fall short of His standards; If God did not have our best interest in mind, He wouldn't send trials to improve us; He'd let us escape all the testings of life, Then on a shelf, useless, would leave us; The Potter knows best how to handle the clay, How to break it and bend it and knead it, How best to remove imperfections He sees Before scuplting a vessel of beauty; So let God be GodThe Creator All-Wise, Omnipotent, Trustworthy, Loving! Let us kneel before Him to worship in awe And reverence The One Who is Sovereign! |
