Speeding through the hectic pace of daily life, do you stop to smell the roses (like the one in this photo by Art Fabian)? Probably not often enough. So if you're looking at this page in the midst of a busy day, we give you several chances to pause briefly at your computer and find pleasure and peace despite your busy life.

For example, in addition to such features as The Nature Connection and illustrated poems, we're pleased to bring you several groups of photos that have been arranged into online "tours". We hope you'll use these pages to take a pleasant break from the busy-ness of daily activities.

When possible, we've created two versions of each tour. If you have a fast connection to the Internet, you will probably want to select the version that has a larger picture, but if your connection is slower, the smaller version will reduce load time.

A Sky Tour

Mina Hamilton is a certified stress-reduction and Kripalu yoga instructor and the author of the delightful book, Serenity to Go: Calming Techniques for Your Hectic Life. She's generously given us permission to reproduce some of her material, such as Deli Dance: Being Thankful While Eating Cheek by Jowl. (Read her brief bio to learn more about her and where her articles can be found on Learning Place Online.) In her Serenity2go website, she presents two online "tours" which she's generously given us permission to reproduce. In introducing them she says:

"Look up. Trapped in a traffic jam? Stuck at a red light? Coming out of a subway exit? So often we forget the beauty round us. Look up and enjoy the blue sky, puffs of clouds. In an urban area? Check out architectural details. A gargoyle peering down at you. Intriguing brick work. A water tower. Your visual environment can be fascinating, intriguing—and distract you from worry and anxiety."

Begin with her sky tour.

An Urban Tour

Also by Mina Hamilton (with photos by Marty Cooper), this is the first of several we plan to encourage you to observe specific parts of your environment.

A Mini Alaska Tour

When Arlene Harder (our editor-in-chief) and her husband returned from Alaska with dozens of pictures, she wanted to share them with visitors to CancerOnline, for which she was executive director at the time. In Expanding Your Horizons she gives a "narrated" trip through Alaska's Inside Passage and up to Anchorage and Fairbanks. Here there is no commentary, just a chance for you to view the pictures slowing, imagining, as you do so, being in our largest state and having wonderful scenery almost everywhere you look.

If you've ever been interested in travelling to our most northern state, watch this mini Alaska tour.
