Book Reviews

While
we were deciding on the name for this, our newest section of Learning
Place Online, I pondered jokingly to our Editor-in-chief, Arlene
Harder, whether visitors to the site would take the subtitle to
mean that the reviews were of great books, or that the book reviews
themselves were great......
Arlene liked the slightly humorous
ambiguity, and thus, our working subtitle remained intact.
Whether the book reviews themselves
are great is something that will be decided only by you, the visitor
to this expanding section; however, I do know that the books we
choose for review are great.
The criteria for all the material
on Learning Place Online is that it contain some element the reader
can take immediately and apply to their lives. Some material on
LPO is linked to websites hosted by the authors of that material—who
perhaps offer courses, or other means of furthering the education
of those interested in the subject or issue. However, the articles
providing those links contain enough information in themselves to
give the reader a strong sense of being able to grasp the material
and help themselves—even before moving to explore additional
resources on the subject.
The same standard is required of
the books we feature. They must provide the reader with a clear
overview, be written in a style that facilitates understanding of
the subject matter, and offer a tangible approach to utilizing the
information.
Please feel free to offer your feedback
on our choices, and to suggest any titles you yourself can recommend
we review and share with our other visitors to Learning Place Online.
