Developing a Healthy Ego and Managing Emotions

There is no way you can avoid emotions. They are an essential element of life. As we note in Mirrors and Closets Begin the Day, we have the capacity to experience every emotion known to Homo Sapiens—from feeling amused or angry to feeling weak or worried.

How we manage those emotions can make a significant difference in both physical and mental well-being. It's not that some emotions are negative and some are positive. Emotions—in and of themselves—are neutral. But when viewed in their proper context, as necessary information we need to understand what can be done to correct a situation, even "bad" emotions can promote healing.

Just as important, understanding emotions and dealing with them effectively can affect your self-confidence and the development of a healthy ego. After all, it can be hard to maintain your confidence when you feel as though your emotions are getting the better of you.
